What an incredible phone, my friends! This is something my team mentioned when our testing of this phone was complete, and let me tell you, I agree with that. After reading this
review in its entirety, you will also say the same.
I am talking about the
Motorola Edge 40. This phone has been launched at an effective price of
27,999 rupees. When I was asked to guess its price earlier, along with its expected specifications, I had said it would be around 30,000 to
31,000 or maybe even
34,000 rupees. But it came under
30,000 rupees, with offers you can get it for
27,999 rupees. Now, why am I speaking so highly about this phone? Well, let's find out in the
review.
No.1 Motorola edge 40 Design
When I first took the phone out of the box, it felt really light, probably because it weighs only 170 grams. It's also quite slim. The back side has a unique glass that
Motorola uses. I mentioned earlier that it's not actually glass but it's better than plastic. The frame, on the other hand, is made of metal.
It has a curved design not only on the back side but also on the display and corners. Due to its lightweight and size, it feels quite handy. It's not too big nor too small. I have the Lonar Blue color, and there are two other colors available: Black and Green. They have a vegan leather finish at the back, and in fact, I have the green one with a vegan leather finish, which feels different in terms of texture. It has a soft feel to it. The choice of color is up to your preference, but in terms of price, it will give you a premium phone feel. Additionally, the phone is slim as I mentioned, and it has dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Physically, it looks really good, and the speaker quality is also great. When typing, the haptic experience is of high quality. This is something I have seen for the first time in a Motorola phone.
No.2 Motorola edge 40 Display
Looking at it from the front, this time it has a curved display, and it's a 6.55-inch FHD+ 144Hz POLED display. The display will appear bright in both indoor and outdoor settings, with a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. I don't have official information about the display protection used.
It supports HDR10+, but it doesn't show HDR content on Netflix. However, you can play HDR videos on YouTube. The bezels are not too noticeable, and I checked the viewing angles and colors, which are very good. Additionally, it features an optical in-display fingerprint scanner.
No.3 Motorola edge 40 Software
One of the things I like about
Motorola is its clean software. It means that you won't find any junk or bloatware, which is a good thing. It kind of feels secure, and you have control over what you want to download or not.

Currently, it runs on Android 13, and you will receive guaranteed updates for the upcoming two versions, Android 14 and 15. Motorola has promised to provide security updates for the next three years. Apart from that, if we talk about the phone, we have the "Ready For" experience with Moto, just like other Moto phones. This feature allows you to wirelessly connect your phone to your TV and enjoy content on a bigger screen. You have different options for games, video calls, or other tasks. It enhances the overall experience. Additionally, Moto Secure provides business-grade security with ThinkShield. Along with that, the Family Spaces feature creates a proper environment where you can control and even provide remote assistance to family members. All these software features combined make the phone experience really good.
No.6 Motorola edge 40 performance
If we talk about gaming performance, you can play games like Call of Duty and others at very high to maximum settings. We played for a short time, around 30-40 minutes, and the performance was incredibly smooth, like butter. When it comes to multitasking and using heavy apps, you won't face any problems at all. This phone is equipped with hyper crystal cooling graphite system, which effectively regulates the device's temperature. Additionally, the vegan leather material ensures that you don't feel any discomfort. The thermals are also very good. Moreover, I can confidently say that the swipes, touches, and overall user experience feel excellent, especially due to the 144Hz display. This phone is definitely well-optimized for a satisfying user experience.
No.7 Motorola edge 40 Camera
It has a primary camera of 50 megapixels

with a large O.I.S sensor inside. Additionally, it also has a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The rear camera, which is 13 megapixels, allows you to take macro photos as well. I must mention that the colors are not entirely accurate, and the skin tones may appear slightly off. However, when it comes to the user experience, changing lenses makes a significant difference. For example, if you switch to portrait mode, you can capture different photos using various MM settings such as 35mm or 50mm. It's not just about adding different modes; the modes available work quite well. The edge detection in portrait mode is impressive, resulting in a natural background blur. One unexpected surprise was the night mode. It captured good photos in low-light conditions, providing us with a lot of details. Overall, the images felt well-balanced. You can also shoot videos with this camera, and the O.I.S ensures stable footage. Whether you're taking it with you at home or recording videos while playing football, you'll get good footage. The back camera can record in 4K at 30fps, full HD at 60fps or 30fps, and slow-motion at 240fps or 120fps.B
Note.7 Motorola edge 40 Battery
There is one thing, this smartphone is quite slim, so of course you won't find a 5000mAh battery inside it. It has a 4400mAh battery, which allows you to comfortably use it for a day, and the charging is quite fast as well. Another thing is that you get 15-watt wireless charging, which is not commonly found at this price point. It feels like
Motorola has listened to its audience regarding charging-related features, and it is actually implemented in this device.
Conclusion
Look, if I explain it straightforwardly, this particular smartphone has been designed in such a way that it offers similar features and a great package at a lower price compared to flagship phones. It's showing a very good value for the package it offers. In its segment, it has many features that are being introduced for the first time, such as the first curved display, IP68 rating, wireless charging, and a significant aperture of 1.4 in the camera with O.I.S. It gives a flagship killer vibe with all these features. Now, please let me know which phone you would prefer to buy within 30,000 rupees.
